The widely anticipated GoldenEye 007 has finally arrived on Xbox and Nintendo Switch with two distinct titles. The Xbox version is a remastered edition of the classic Nintendo 64 game that was released in 1997.
The remaster boasts 4K resolution, smoother frame rates, and split-screen local multiplayer, reminiscent of a planned Xbox 360 release in 2008 that was canceled due to licensing issues but resurfaced in 2021.
On the other hand, Nintendo has made GoldenEye 007 available as part of its Nintendo Switch Online service. Players must subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier to access N64 games, which were added to the service in 2021.
Exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version is the online multiplayer mode, in contrast to Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X consoles’ “faithful recreation” that’s included in the Xbox Game Pass subscription.
The classic campaign mode is available on Xbox, along with cheat modes, dual analog stick support, and a native 16:9 aspect ratio up to 4K.
If you already own a digital copy of Rare Replay on Xbox, GoldenEye 007 is included and can be downloaded for free.
Note: The games are now available on both Nintendo and Xbox.
